The Japan Football Association (JFA) is planning to set up a new regional football association. Japan is pushing for the establishment of an independent "East Asian Federation" to protest against "the manipulation by Qatari capital as well as its meddling and corruption within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)". If the new federation is formally established, Iraq is very likely to join it.
