Official sources confirm that Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps on a free transfer, where he will wear the No. 13 jersey.

Vancouver Whitecaps’ official announcement reads as follows:

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday the signing of Thomas Müller, one of the most decorated legends in football history and a German attacking midfielder. The superstar from Bayern Munich has signed with the club for the remainder of the 2025 season, with a designated player option for 2026. Müller will occupy an international roster spot, filling a position vacated by a season-ending injury. He will officially join the squad upon receipt of his international transfer certificate, visa, and work permit.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC acquired Müller’s priority discovery rights from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2025, $100,000 in GAM in 2026, and a conditional $100,000 in GAM in 2026.

Axel Schuster, Chief Executive Officer and Sporting Director of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, stated: “Thomas is a world-class player and a top-tier ‘ Raumdeuter ’ (space interpreter), renowned for his exceptional ability to create chances, unparalleled spatial awareness, and tireless off-the-ball movement. Beyond his illustrious trophy cabinet and outstanding footballing intelligence, his relentless work ethic will elevate the entire team. Thomas is a natural leader whose passion for the game is infectious. This is a landmark signing by our club and ownership, marking a transformative moment for both the club and the city. We are proud to welcome Thomas to Vancouver.”

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are enjoying a record-breaking season, leading the Western Conference in average points per game. Thomas Müller is scheduled to arrive in Vancouver next Wednesday, with his media availability and first training session set for next Thursday.

Thomas Müller commented: “I’m excited to head to Vancouver and help this team win trophies. I’ve heard great things about the city, but most importantly, I’m here to win. I’ve had fantastic conversations with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sørensen, and now I can’t wait to play in front of the fans. I look forward to seeing everyone in the stadium cheering us on as we push toward the playoffs.”

Thomas Müller joins Vancouver Whitecaps FC following a glorious 17-year career at Bayern Munich, where he established himself as one of the most successful players in European football history. The attacking star made 756 appearances for Bayern, scoring 250 goals and providing 238 assists, helping the club secure a record 33 titles, including:

13 Bundesliga titles

  • 8 DFL-Supercup titles
  • 6 DFB-Pokal titles
  • 2 UEFA Champions League titles
  • 2 UEFA Super Cup titles
  • 2 FIFA Club World Cup titles
  • On the international stage, Müller earned 131 caps for the German national team, scoring 45 goals and adding 41 assists.
