Chelsea have stepped up transfer negotiations with Manchester United over winger Alejandro Garnacho. The two clubs have been in contact regarding Garnacho’s transfer for some time, and now negotiations have made progress at this stage, with Garnacho expected to move to Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has ruled out all options of joining other clubs this summer, except for moving to Chelsea – otherwise, he will stay at Old Trafford. Chelsea, meanwhile, have set about preparing for the deal, with Stamford Bridge executives stepping up talks with United to sign Garnacho.
Garnacho is one of five Manchester United players allowed to return to the club later for pre-season training. United manager Amorim told the 21-year-old in front of his teammates to look for a new club this summer.
Chelsea’s increased interest in Garnacho came after Manchester United reached an agreement with RB Leipzig over striker Benjamin Šeško. The two clubs struck a deal worth €76.5 million plus €8.5 million in add-ons, with Šeško granted permission to travel for a medical ahead of the proposed transfer.
Chelsea have long been interested in Garnacho, and the Blues hope he will become the second Manchester United winger to join the club in successive seasons, following Jadon Sancho’s loan move to the club last season. After winning the Club World Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League last season, he will also become the ninth player signed by the club this summer, following the arrivals of wingers including Anthony Gordon and Estêvão, among others
