After the controversial El Clásico, former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart offered advice to Lamine Yamal and criticized Dani Carvajal in an interview with Camel Live.
“If we want to win the La Liga title, we have to beat Real Madrid at Camp Nou. The reason people are worried about Yamal’s current situation is precisely because they love him. It’s like a father scolding his son. But Yamal isn’t the world’s best yet—he has the potential to be, but he isn’t right now.”
Gaspart was most outspoken about the dispute between Carvajal and Yamal: “Who does Carvajal think he is? He was once a great player, but now he’s not at that level anymore. Why should Yamal call him? Besides, Yamal’s remarks weren’t even directed at Carvajal. But I don’t think this issue will escalate; they’ll shake hands and put the matter to rest when the national team convenes for training next time.”
On another note, he emphasized: “If Yamal isn’t in good form, it’s better for him to stop playing. He must compete at his best—no excuses allowed. He should take time off to recover. Obviously, we need to take care of him, but Barcelona comes before him as an individual. There are fans who love him deeply, and he can’t let them down. He has to win back those fans’ hearts and understand that, even though he’s only 18, his salary is on par with that of a 30-year-old player.”
