Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is on the verge of joining Sunderland, after requesting to be left out of the Blues' Club World Cup squad to focus on securing his future. The Serbian international is eager to leave Stamford Bridge in search of a first-choice role elsewhere.

Sunderland have been proactive in the transfer market this week, identifying Petrovic as one of the top available goalkeepers. The 28-year-old has Premier League experience from two seasons ago, followed by a loan spell at Strasbourg during the 2024/25 campaign.

While Strasbourg had hoped to sign Petrovic permanently, Sunderland moved quickly to secure the deal, with the transfer fee expected to be around £25 million.

Chelsea named Robert Sánchez and Philipp Jungmann in their Club World Cup squad, alongside highly rated 19-year-old new signing Penders—who joined from Genk—and 21-year-old Gabriel Slonina. The arrivals have pushed Petrovic down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
