The jersey was delivered to Trump by Antonio Luís Santos da Costa, the President of the European Council and a native of Portugal, in a recent diplomatic gesture.
This gesture comes amid Costa's tenure as the President of the European Council, a role he assumed in December 2024, following his election by EU leaders. Meanwhile, Trump, who won the 2024 US presidential election and was sworn in on January 20, 2025, currently serves as the 47th President of the United States.
Ronaldo, despite turning 40 in February 2025, remains an active member of the Portuguese national team and continues to inspire global audiences both on and off the pitch. In 2025 alone, he has already scored 10 goals across club and international competitions, extending his record of scoring at least 10 goals in every calendar year since 2004. His jersey, emblazoned with the message "Playing for Peace," reflects his long-standing advocacy for unity and sportsmanship.
