Manchester United’s move to sign Benjamin Sesko has reached a key stage – the forward’s medical has begun, and the £74 million signing is set to be officially unveiled at Old Trafford on Sunday.
This summer, United have already signed three new players: Matheus Cunha, Diego León and Bryan Mbeumo. Among them, Cunha and Mbeumo have strengthened the No.10 position, but the forward line remains a weak spot. In the 2024/25 season, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee scored just 7 Premier League goals combined, making the signing of a new striker a top priority.
United missed out on Liam Delap and Viktor Gyökeres in their search for a forward, but finally settled on Sesko, viewing him as a better option than Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. The 22-year-old Sesko had previously attracted interest from several European clubs and the Saudi Pro League. After Arsenal made Gyökeres their top target, United quickly seized the initiative to sign him.
To push the deal through, Sesko agreed to waive part of his salary (he could have earned more at Newcastle), and his agent team (led by Elvis Bašanović) also voluntarily cut a significant portion of their commission – these concessions proved crucial to the transfer.
According to media reports, Sesko and his agent arrived in Manchester on Friday. The medical and contract signing (until 2030) will take place on Saturday, with the official unveiling scheduled for Sunday.
