The East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) aims to host the 2046 FIFA World Cup. Candidate countries will be recruited in the future, with Japan, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia expected to be the main candidate host nations.

In line with FIFA's World Cup hosting rotation principle, Saudi Arabia has been confirmed as the host of the 2034 World Cup, meaning Asian countries can only apply to host the 2046 World Cup at the earliest.

The EAFF and the ASEAN Football Federation had already confirmed this bid proposal at a meeting held in Tokyo last March. This week, the President of the Japan Football Association, who had just concluded a visit to observe the East Asian Cup, stated, "While we have not yet exchanged documents with ASEAN, both sides are discussing topics like 'it would be good if we could cooperate on a bid'."

According to FIFA requirements, the host country must have at least 14 stadiums with a capacity of over 40,000 spectators. Among these, semi-final venues must hold over 60,000, and the final venue must accommodate over 80,000 spectators.
