Newcastle United’s bid for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has been rejected once again.
Newcastle United’s latest bid for forward Wissa has been improved but still turned down by Brentford. The Magpies offered a fixed transfer fee of £35 million plus £5 million in hard-to-achieve add-ons, yet this total bid of £40 million was once again rejected by the Bees’ hierarchy.
Brentford sources, who are not authorized to discuss the situation, declined to disclose specific reasons but emphasized that the club has not yet offered Wissa’s asking price to any team.
On July 22nd, Brentford rejected Newcastle’s £25 million bid for the 28-year-old, who scored 19 Premier League goals in the 2024-25 season. Nottingham Forest also made a bid for the DR Congo international in July but abandoned their pursuit after being rejected by Brentford.
After Brentford returned from their pre-season training camp in Portugal, Wissa held a face-to-face meeting with Brentford’s hierarchy to discuss his future. He did not feature in the club’s pre-season matches and missed the opening Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, which the Bees lost 3-1.
Newcastle turned their attention to Wissa after cooling their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, who eventually joined Liverpool. Beyond Kolo Muani, Newcastle have also missed out on several forward targets this summer, including João Pedro, Liam Delap (both joined Chelsea) and Benjamin Šeško (joined Manchester United).
Their pursuit of a forward comes as Alexander Isak looks to leave, with the Swedish international stating on social media on Tuesday that his relationship with the club “cannot continue”.
