Updates on Rasmus Højlund’s transfer reveal the Danish striker is open to leaving Manchester United for AC Milan this summer, yet resents the club’s apparent pressure to force him out—just 12 days after he insisted he wanted to stay.
Højlund is willing to join Milan, and United are confident of striking a deal with the Serie A giants, who are rebuilding under returning manager Massimiliano Allegri. Milan finished eighth in Serie A last season, missing out on European qualification.
However, the move’s fate remains uncertain: United value Højlund at around £30 million, while Milan want to loan the 22-year-old. Though he has three years left on his contract, United decided earlier this year to sell him if a new center-forward was signed.
United have bolstered their attack this summer with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko—introduced to Old Trafford fans before Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina. Sesko joined last week from RB Leipzig for £73.62 million.
Højlund missed the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina, his first absence in five pre-season games. Manager Ruben Amorim opted for midfielder Mason Mount up front, just six days after Cunha led the line in a 2-2 draw with Everton.
Sources close to Højlund revealed last week that his departure became inevitable once Sesko signed. He is upset with United’s heavy-handed approach, particularly after he emphasized his desire to stay just 12 days ago.
