Tottenham Hotspur have indeed shown interest in Piero Hincapié, with the Ecuadorian center-back featuring on their transfer shortlist. However, their bid failed to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s valuation, leading to the Bundesliga club rejecting the offer.
Now, Arsenal have also entered the race for Hincapié. The Ecuadorian international is keen on joining the Gunners, as he considers Arsenal’s project very attractive. Initial contact has been made regarding personal terms, which are not expected to be an issue.
Arsenal are yet to submit a formal bid, as the deal is part of a “domino effect” involving two key moves: Jakub Kiwior’s potential transfer to Porto and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure. These developments will determine whether Arsenal proceed with a bid for Hincapié.
Additionally, Arsenal have offered €8 million plus €2 million in add-ons to La Liga side Girona for defender Arnau Martínez. However, Martínez is not a priority for Arsenal, who remain focused on signing Hincapié. The Gunners have made their interest in the Leverkusen defender clear but insist on meeting the release clause in his contract, though there are reports they hope Leverkusen will lower their demands slightly.
