Zapopan, a city in Mexico, is one of the host cities for next year’s US-Canada-Mexico World Cup. Recently, Juan José Frangie, Mayor of Zapopan and also General Manager of Mexican Liga MX club Chivas, compared the two upcoming superstars in an exclusive interview with Camel Live.
Reporter: Mexico has hosted two World Cups before, so are expectations also very high for this edition?
Frangie: Mexico is the only country to have hosted the World Cup three times, but this joint hosting by three countries is quite different from the previous ones. Ask me who will be the gran estrella (superstar) of next year’s World Cup? I would say it’s Cristiano Ronaldo. I don’t know if Portugal can win the championship, but he will definitely be the superstar.
Is he better than Messi?
Yes, I think Ronaldo is in better form currently. The league where Messi plays has less intense competition than the one Ronaldo is in, and the former has lower requirements for players’ abilities.
Could you predict the champion of next year’s World Cup and a standout player?
I think the champion may be Spain or Brazil, and Ronaldo will be the star of this World Cup.
